I have a hard time deciding whether to store them all safely away or put the photos on the fridge.

Andrea collected all of them and put them in a big manila envelope - decorated it and kept track of the pertinent details of her family and friends. It is very cute idea. You’ve just got to see how cute the envelope turned out and how easy it was to do.

I’m inspired.

I find it frustrating to read scrapbooking magazines. The majority of the layouts are too fancy, feature just one photo and look like they took hours to create. I was beginning to think it was just me, but then I came across this post by Kim Guymon of ScrapBizness where she launches a Campaign for Real Scrapping.

Amongst other things she suggests we:

Focus on the photos
Crop conservatively - Grandma’s house in the background may be precious someday
Keep the page simple - don’t overwhelm the photos with embellishments

I have discovered the wonder of online photo albums! I’ve investigated Flickr before, but it hasn’t really caught me. Something just didn’t “fit” me. A couple days ago I tried Picasa Web Albums and it is safe to say I am HOOKED. I’ve already created two private albums to share with family and friends.

Over coffee this morning I was thinking about what else I can do with Picasa. A digital scrapbooking album came to mind. It is the perfect way to share my digi creations. Here’s my sample album:

Scrappin Cabinet Picasa Web Album

If you want to get your own Picasa Web Album (aka Digital Scrapbooking Web Album) you can get it free here.

I just got an email from Jill Davis, the founder of Scrapbook.com. They have a completely new site design and it is, in a word, awesome! They have a new home page, a completely new gallery, and several more upgrades. It is so easy to find your way around now at scrapbook.com. Well worth a visit.

They even have a $15 rebate going right now. You can get it with a $30 purchase. That sounds like a half-off sale to me =:)

Another feature they have (which is not new, but is really cool) is a place where you can create your own web page. It is like MySpace but for scrapbookers. Find it by clicking on the My Place house icon.

Jill, great redesign. Love it!

As for you, I’ll see you at Scrapbook.com…

So I woke up this morning and in that quiet few minutes where I was totally awake but kept laying there as if I were still sound asleep my mind turned to the new digital scrapbook kit I downloaded yesterday. Specifically I started thinking about organizing all my digi scrapping stuff.

And it occurred to me that this is going to be both easier and harder because it is HighTech.

First of all, I don’t need to buy any fancy organizing containers. Easier.
I can’t physically move stuff to put things together and see what I have. Harder.
I can put things in multiple places. Harder now, easier later.

Then I realized this is the best part of organizing things digitally. I can leave all my digital scrapbooking kits together in a folder so I can create quick, easy coordinated layouts. I can ALSO pull all the papers out and store them in a Paper folder. Also keep a copy of the embellishments in an Embellishments folder. Clearly, it will take much longer to do this up front, but later when I’m looking for things I will undoubtedly find what I’m looking for so much easier.

Of course all this fun digi organizing will have to wait until the festive holiday parties are done, the food all eaten and the wrapping paper thrown out. Oh well, it will wait.

[This post also posted on my new blog for HighTechMoms - HighTechMomsClub.com.]

In all the years I have been a scrapbooker I have pretty much gone along for the ride in terms of the supplies and tools. I’ve never once predicted a trend or even foreseen some of the cool things that have come our way.

Who knew that Sizzix would make die cutting so accessible to the masses? What about the Cricut? A personal scrapbooking computer that cuts anything in any size. I never saw that coming.

But today when I saw ProBlogger’s challenge to offer up a review or a prediction about what 2007 will bring in my niche I knew EXACTLY what to predict.

Here goes:

I believe that 2007 will bring news of a 12 x 12 Digital Photo Frame perfect for displaying digital scrapbookers’ creations. With one of those nifty 4GB SD cards and a digital scrapbooking frame like this a digital scrapbooker could display oodles and oodles of pages without taking up all that shelf space for scrapbook albums.

Anybody know of such a thing yet?
Does that sound as cool to anybody else as it does to me?

First up is Angie Pedersen’s Book of Me series of books. She’s offering free shipping and personalized signing of all books. I have to say that I just love the thought of doing “me” stuff around the holidays. After all, the whole season is so busy that it is a nice break to stop and think about my “ME” album. And if that means bringing a friend scrapper into the fold, then so be it.

See ya at Angie’s…

One of my goals for ScrappinCabinet is to do more product reviews of all things related to scrapbooking. I mean, we all buy a ton of stuff to feed our hobby…right? (We may not ‘fess up to our significant others exactly how much, but we certainly do.) My plan is to share what I love and what I don’t so you can at least head into some of these purchases with your eyes open.

Today I found a website called ReviewMe, that just might help me do more scrapbooking reviews. This site is designed for companies and bloggers to come together to get the word out about their stuff. It works like this – bloggers agree to be approached to do reviews and companies will pay them a small stipend for doing so.

Before you start worrying that I will review something and say glowing things about it just to get this fee – forget about it. First of all, I would not do that to a fellow scrapper. You may know that my mom reads ScrappinCabinet and frequently buys stuff I recommend. (Case in point - she has her own discount code at ScrapYourTrip, which she discovered here.)

Bottom line - you can rest assured that I would only recommend something on ScrappinCabinet that I would suggest to my mom. Besides that, ReviewMe does not allow advertisers to require a positive review and each review must mention that it is a sponsorship, advertisement or paid review. I do agree that full disclosure is best. So, on that note, I am happy to say this is a sponsored review of ReviewMe, which so far, I love.
