My dad and stepmom keep voice messages that my daughter (and their other grandkids) leave for them on their voice mail. They want to be able to hear the small voices from the past once these kids are all grown up. I’ve always loved that idea but haven’t figured out a way to integrate those tiny voices into my scrapbooks. I just discovered something though that sounds (pun intended) pretty cool.

Sound Stripes Kit - $ 39.00

From: Scrapbook.com

Sound Stripes – An innovative way to give your scrapbook pages a voice. It allows you to easily add sounds to your scrapbook page without bulk! Use your kit to record and automatically retrieve up to 30 messages each 20 seconds long. All that goes into your scrapbook are the ultra thin, archival, acid fee Sound Stripes labels. There is no added bulk to your album no matter how many sounds you use. Think of the possibilities! Each Sound Stripes kit contains:

# A palm size digital recorder and reader (Necessary for sound retrieval)
# 30 specially coded labels.

Sound Stripes makes the perfect holiday or end of the year teacher’s gift. Have each of the children in the classroom record a Sound Stripes message that begins: “My favorite thing about Mrs. Smith is…”. Using a mini-scrapbook, adhere a Sound Stripes label on each scrapbook page along with a photo of each child and you have an unforgettable gift for that special teacher!

Do you know a graduating high school senior? Give them the gift that makes their high school yearbook come alive – Sound Stripes! Imagine collecting the memories and stories of your high school years in the voices of those special friends! Once you have collected your memories, the thin Sound Stripes labels can be placed right into your yearbook next to the pictures of your friends. Let Sound Stripes help that special graduate you know create an unforgettable treasure.

I was thinking this would be so fun to do a Friends album and have them record their voices on their pages for me. Or my daughter could do a small album and record her favorite memories of each photo right on the page. It could be done on the First Day of School too. The possibilities are endless!

What would you use Sound Stripes for?

I admit that now that I have a dozen or so Sizzix alphabets to choose from when I’m cropping over at my mom’s house (go Mom!) I find doing page titles a lot more fun. When I had to make sure I wouldn’t run out of a certain letter in the alphabet before I settled on a title I tended to skip that part of my layouts a lot.

But sometimes I have trouble thinking of what title to use, so I found a site that offers free lists of page titles. ThePerfectTitle.com has huge list of categories to choose from with a wide variety of suggested page titles within each category.

A couple of my favorites are:

Under the Royalty category (in honor of my daughter being a Princess for Halloween):
Princess in Training
Princesses on Parade

In the Picnic category (the randomly suggested title brought me here):
Who Brought the Watermelon?
No Ants Invited!!

The site is cool and has lots of resources. A bit heavy on the advertising, but, hey, the page titles are all free for the taking.

Carolyn at Crop Chic has discovered she is the “historical twin” of her maternal grandmother and did a beautiful Then & Now layout sharing her grandmother’s photo alongside hers. She really does look like her =:) What a great idea Carolyn! I am now on a quest to find my historical twin.

In my mind I look like my mom’s paternal grandmother who came to America via steerage despite the fact that her husband-to-be had sent her money to come first class. Since she knew she wasn’t going to marry him when she arrived, she saved the money on the fare to pay him back. She did and married someone else (my great-great grandfather). Now that’s gutsy and honorable. Even if I don’t look like her, I hope I am like her.

Today I was home in the middle of the day (after a dentist visit) and while browsing the on-TV TV guide I spotted a show on DIY called Scrapbooking. Quick as a wink I hit the select button only to find out that that our subscription package doesn’t include that channel. Bummer, dude!

But just now I was elated to find out that their online Scrapbooking center at DIYNetwork.com is simply amazing.

It has tons of ideas, photos, and even videos. COOL! Way worth a visit to the site.

In honor of our first snowfall of the season here in Denver (BTW, Go Broncos!), I sought out some fun snow related scrapbook supplies. It reminds me of the time when I was walking through Michael’s and saw a really cool pre-made tag like the one here. I almost bought it because it was so cute. Then, I said to myself, “But do I really need a fancy tag for just some snow?” The next weekend we got 3 FEET of snow right here in Denver. Some folks in the foothills got 7 feet. Shut the whole city down.

As soon as I could get out of our driveway (three days later) I went to Michaels and bought the tag. Now, that snowfall was worthy of a fancy tag!

Fresh Tags-Snow Wonder

I love snowflakes. My sister and I used to catch them on our dark-colored gloves and try to see two that were alike. Never did work…

Making Memories Trinkets-Snowflake

One thing I am really grateful for is that we have all four seasons here in Colorado. In fact, I have on my list of “Albums To Do” a set of Seasons albums. How fun would it be to bring out the Winter album right now just to solidify the season? We could sit around with hot chocolate and reminisce about winters gone by. Then run out and grab some photos for the winter of 2005 - which seems to have started … today.

Since I have officially been doing my Book of ME album for a whole day now I have started to notice all the sub themes that are out there. You know how you never even notice the car commercials until you are shopping for a car - these album themes are everywhere now.

Basic Grey is sponsoring a 2005 BE BOLD Album Contest.

The content is all about being BOLD in creating an album. The album theme choices are indeed, bold. At first glance it doesn’t seem so, but if you start to think about doing an entire album on any of these topics and staying BOLD about it, the fact is that there would be some serious emotional work in doing one of these.

b. Choose a theme for your album from one of the following nine (9) themes:
(1) Life As We Know It
(2) Who I Am
(3) I Never Imagined
(4) Believe In Yourself
(5) My Legacy
(6) Chances Are
(7) Life, Unexpected
(8) Defining Moments
(9) Life’s Challenges

I will probably not enter the contest, but I am going to give these themes some serious consideration as I make more progress on my Book of ME album.

Anybody entering?

Since I keep mentioning Angie’s book, here is the info on it.

So I’m in the grocery store yesterday when I see this cute under-sized magazine at the checkout lane. It is called Scrapbooks Made Easy 12 cool album ideas. Make one tonight! Of course I grab it right away. Not often I get to make a scrapbooking impulse buy at the grocery store.

This little magazine is a dynamo. Not so much for the layout ideas (although there are some cute ones) but more for the guilt reduction. You know, the stuff we scrapbookers make ourselves crazy over - cropping every picture, not doing anything unless everything is perfect, stuff like that.

A quick glance at the section headings alone offered me some relief from the self-induced stress of scrapbooker’s perfectionism.

It’s never too late.
Lose the guilt.
Leave most of your photos in the box
Celebrate your life

Here is an excerpt from the final section, Quality, not quantity:

“It’s easy to get excited about scrapbooking and start seeing everything with ’scrapbooker’s eye.’ Suddenly, everything is a layout waiting to happen. You dress your kids in shirts that match the paper you just bought and take them tot he park to take a picture for a scrapbook page. If you snap the photo and rush home to make your page, you’ve missed the point. If you take the photo, then put the camera away and have a great time playing on the swings, there is still hope for you! Scrapbooks are for saving memories and telling stories, but first you have to live them.”

These great concepts are interwoven with good ideas for album themes for baby, school, vacation, holiday, birthday and family. All in all, this was a great impulse buy. Well worth the $3.99. When you see this little mag co-produced by Simple Scrapbooks and Soap Opera Digest, go ahead and get it. If you aren’t seeking the latest, greatest, whiz-bang layouts but good concepts and ideas about scrapbooking, you’ll be glad you did.

I came across a site where you can create your own word search games. It occurred to me that it could be a pretty fun piece to add to journaling. Basically you list the words you want and the site creates the puzzle. Then you can print out the puzzle and circle the words (or have your kids do it) and viola - the start of journaling.

Here is a sample puzzle I created with the idea that it would be journaling for a day at the park.

What do you think?
